ABOUT THE PROVISION

The Aberfan and Merthyr Vale Youth and Community Project have provided the communities of Ynysowen with opportunities to engage in educational initiatives since July 2002. The introduction of the Adult Education provision complimented the already existing service provided by the Project, by contributing to the formation of a complete package catering for all members of the community,

Since the Adult Education introduction, several community members have achieved their objective by either receiving recognised qualifications, improving their knowledge base, securing employment, making new friends, pursuing their interests and occupying their free time.

The first step of delivering the provision is to identify the training needs of community members, or acting on an interest shown. A course tutor is obtained from training providers such as the University of Glamorgan or the WEA, and the establishment of a reasonable start date, time and venue takes place. The course is then promoted throughout the community in order to generate enough interest to ensure that there are enough students to run the course (minimum of 8 students).
