Manager: MARK ELLIOTT

My name is Mark Elliott; I oversee the Transport Division, which includes the Diversion Auto Project, Working Links, Dial a Ride and the Concessionary fares Initiative on behalf of the Aberfan & Merthyr Vale Youth & Community Project. I have been part of the project for nearly two years, and in that time I have seen massive strides to make the project a success. The whole team works as one, which makes my job easier as a manager.

I have been a manager for fifteen years in similar run projects and also as a manager in a Youth Offending Team.

What's Going On

The Diversion Auto Project is now very busy with the Auto Project operating 5 days a week delivering quality qualifications to over 50 individuals. There are enquiries for places at the project made nearly every week because of the quality provision and hard work from the staff Don and Ian. The Diversion Auto Project also supplies vehicles from Working Links and Want to Work for individuals needing a vehicle to assist them to get back to work.

At present we also deliver the momentum course, which assist young people in the values and rules of owning a motor vehicle. The course includes basic motor vehicle maintenance, driving simulation through Working Links and an actual driving lesson on private land with a qualified driving instructor.

The Auto Diversion project also works in partnership with a number of statutory organisations and private businesses. We currently work with Working Links who provide transport and support for people seeking employment. The project helps support Working Links by repairing a fleet of 33 cars, cleaning and administrating the vehicles as part of the partnership working ethos.

The staff at the Auto project also make sure that the Community Transport section operates smoothly by maintaining the fleet of minibuses.

DON NICHOLL – MOTOR MECHANIC

Hi my name is Don and I’m the mechanic at the Auto Project. I’m married to Sharon and have 5 children, 4 boys and 1 princess.

Before working for the Auto Project I completed 23 years in the forces and worked as an assistant manager in the hotel & hospitality industry.

I’m a fully qualified and experienced mechanic, petroleum fitter and resources specialist. We have just completed our first year and I am looking forward to our second year. I look forward to meeting all those who start a course with the Diversion Auto Project.

The forthcoming months for the Diversion Auto Project are definitely exciting ones as we expecting up to 40 young people to attend our motor mechanics course in September where hopefully they will gain O.C.N level 1 and then be able to progress on to college or pursue a career in this chosen field.

Hi I’m Ian I have been working within the Diversion Auto Project for 5 weeks as a youth worker / vehicle mechanic. Previous to this I worked in the motor trade for 40 years. I am married to Pamela and I have 3 grown up children. Since my year of office as the Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil has come to an end I have come to work with the project and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Auto Project on 01685 375535.
